I am an older Finnish man and still wondering why the studies place us among the happiest nations years after years. I do know all-happy Finns, although they do not seem to look or act happy.
IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU OR ME
I am an older Finnish man and still wondering why the studies place us among the happiest nations years after years. I do know all-happy Finns, although they do not seem to look or act happy. I asked my mother of her secret. Well, she told me about it and now I am trying to find out my own secret. I have figured out so far that it may have something to do being in balance with yourself and your surroundings. And might also be so that there are only two kinds of things in this life: ones you can change and the other ones you cannot. Finally, it may help if you can laugh at yourself. A Finnish humor might feel a little bit strange – hide your happiness, someone may steel it. Stay real-istic.
I have realized being still able to learn new valuable things and control how much I need electricity and other pleasant things. That gives me a sort of relief. There are couple other things that keeps challenges alive and yet support my confidence: Sometimes I may be stupid because I have wasted too much time in school learning wrong subjects e.g., business ethics, strategic marketing etc. and honestly, I have tendency being lazy. Luckily, I have strong feeling that it is I who might have a little say so about my well-being and I am eager to learn from my mistakes – which are plenty. And finally, if the generations before me survived with less than I have now, I should be OK. I am a living proof they did. With a little adjustments and modesty my odds are good to be able to hand the baton over for the next generations to come. Yet, I am not much of a teacher, nor preacher. It is not about you or me, it’s about all of us.
